The rich and fertile Ropa Valley boasts the island’s unique 18-par golf course, a true gem of European golf, in a natural setting of breathtaking beauty, the whole area of the Corfu Golf Club which, according to Malcolm Campbell’s Golf Encyclopedia, is included among the 19 top championship courses in Continental Europe. The Golf has been designed by the renowned architect Donald Harradine and is an example of an admirable blend of the valley’s natural resources with man made "natural" hazards. Weather conditions are ideal for the sport, as there is sunshine throughout the summer -pleasantly moderated though by the cool breeze constantly blowing from the sea- but also through a big part of the winter too. The architect’s goal was to make the course so much competitive, as functional, being capable to meet any player’s demands, from the most "advanced" to the handicapped one. Against the backdrop of a line of verdurous hills, tree lined fairways and meandering streams, sand traps, lakes and other challenges, the turf, kept in perfect condition at all times, satisfies even the most demanding ones, while there are three sets of tees, for different levels of players. At the club’s stone built compound there is an elegant restaurant and a bar. There is also the "pro" shop, where the professional or the simple player can find anything in terms of equipment. Reservations can be made in advance through the area’s hotels. The nearby chapel of St.Charalampos is available for weddings and baptisms.
