Ropa valley |
The Ropa valley occupies an area of 10.000.000 sq. meters. In previous times it was a lake in its biggest part, which was eventually drained. Today the region is a vast green meadow where herds of sheep graze. On the borders with the surrounding hills there are numerous cultivations with prevailing those of the vineyards producing the exquisite local wine of the "kakotrygis" variety. In some parts of the area there is some tourist development too, as it happens with the golf course. Thanks to the river of Ermones, as well as to a formation of lakes in its eastern part, the region constitutes an important life reserve, the hospitable refuge for various species of birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles. Exploring the meadow by car, bike or on foot, will fascinate you.
